taste of tuscany

On a recent weekend trip I came across Villa Bellezza, an up and coming local winery along highway 35 and a stone's throw from Lake Pepin. My first impressions at seeing the winery were of shock. How could they operate such a classy place right along the highway? But all of my concerns melted away the second I walked in through the back door of the tasting room. It spilled out onto a lovely piazza, and after sitting a minute I began to feel nostalgia for my Italian vacation. The pattering of the central fountain, the Tuscan color palette under the glow of the five o'clock sun, and the soft shadows cast by the looming chapel transported me to a small Italian village. The only thing missing was the cry of rambunctious Italian boys running through the plaza, a detail not missed by guests seeking repose and a good glass of wine.
Though I did not have a glass myself, I did enjoy another Italian pastime...fashion! I wore a silky romper for my day trip so that I could look put-together yet still stay comfortable in the heat. I borrowed it from my sister, always the lady to go to for some unique printed pieces. The spunky pineapple print is a perfect use for some of my favorite summer colors- navy and orange. I accessorized with loose gold bangles and a cork swing bag. I pulled the look together with orange cork wedges, a great way to make a romper look a bit more grown up.
