good reads

One of the things I will miss most about college is Amazon book buybacks. I am a sucker for the gift card payments, instead of the cash that my university's bookstore would offer. I love to spend the money on "fun reading books", as I would normally either borrow from the library (gross!) or a friend. Opting for the Amazon gift cards was my reward to myself for finishing up dreaded finals.
This week was the beginning of the end of this era. I received my trade-in gift card (I knew that Geology 101 book would come in handy!), and almost immediately crossed a few items off of my wish list. I am now excitedly awaiting the following:
Cherry Blossoms | I almost bought this book on my trip to Washington, D.C., but held off because I did not want to carry with me around town (I am a pretty intense tourist). Once I got back on MN soil, I could not stop thinking about the book, so I have been waiting for this moment for quite a while!

Shocking Life | I had heard of the designer Elsa Schiaparelli (scap-arelli) before, but never the woman behind the label. Always fascinated by the story of a bold and eccentric designer, I made the purchase as soon as I read a quick bio. I can't wait to go deeper into this autobiography.

The One and Only | The latest by my favorite author, Emily Giffin. I have read the three chapter preview and am already HOOKED. I can't wait to meet her at a book signing in July!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you excited to read this summer?

when life gives you lemons...

when life gives you lemons...work that runway. Ok, that is a new one. I think the cliche actually goes"...make lemonade!"; but I will spare you the cliches for this post. I don't know if it is the bright sunny light that fills the skies on these June days, the heat that makes me crave a perfectly sweet/sour citron pressé, or the Kate Spade lemon pieces that first sparked my interest, but I can't seem to get lemons off of my mind!

Which lemon piece is your favorite?

toucan play that game

Friday, June 6, 2014

Always the queen of "ugly chic" (which could be another post in itself, really.), my little sis, Noelle, has been on a tropical frenzy this season. My increasing familiarity with her palm/pineapple/hibisucs yielding ways have lead me to hold a place in my heart for some tropical ugly chic.
With the help of Kate Spade, Noelle, I say...toucan play that game.

What do you think of the tropical trend?

a day at eastcliff

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

As part of the University of Minnesota graduation festivities, I was invited to attend an open house at Eastcliff, the home of the university president. I thought it was a sweet and personal end to the four years I spent at the University. I am happy that I was able to spend it with my parents and grandparents, some of the key parts of my support system throughout college, and my whole life.
I wanted to dress up for the occasion, but I had to balance along the fine line of being overdressed...let's be honest, it is a problem I face most days. You can never go wrong with an LBD, so I borrowed this lace number from my mom (similar). I love that we are the same size! To make it more "me", I added my favorite pink bubble earrings from Blush boutique (similar) and a pink snakeskin print belt (similar). I made the look a bit more casual by wearing tan platform sandals (similar) and an H&M gold straw clutch (similar).
A photo-op with the host, President Kaler. Well accessorized in his U of M tie ;).
