come fly with me

I am officially D.C. bound! I hanging out at the airport, as we came early to avoid a snow storm, but I think this still counts. What better way to spend the time than blogging? I found a pic from a layover in D.C. a few years ago, and got a little artsy to celebrate the trip. Now for a little I spy...can you spot the capitol?

Did you find it? In a few short hours I will be there! Until then, I will dream of D.C., while my dad power walks the airport (he thinks it is good exercise...#dadproblems).

Keep in touch this week via instagram, and the hashtag #cocoheartsspringbreak.

spring break beginnings

Monday, March 17, 2014

Spring break is here! I have been kicking it in Rochester for the past few days, enjoying a short stop at home before I jet off to D.C. tomorrow evening. I have enjoyed spending time with my dad and dogs, with lots of Catan game nights and going out to eat. Here is a pic highlight of the weekend:
On my to-do list is packing (why does it always take so long??), wrapping up some research work, and a quick stop to my sister's for a belated b-day lunch (its her birthday today!!!) before I am officially D.C. bound!

How did you spend your weekend?

décor amour | fresh vs. fake

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

I LOVE fresh flowers, but my lack of a green thumb and my budget have led me to turn to decorating with fake florals. Regardless, I love the way they brighten the space. My go-to is usually IKEA. They have great variety for reasonable prices. A month or so ago I found a large tropical-like plant of sale for $10! It took every bit of restraint to only buy one.

Today I was excited to find this pretty ranunculus arrangement at target.com. Because I can't make it to the store until Friday I opted for in-store pick up. Its the first time I've tried this, so we'll see how it works. Rananculus are among my favorite flowers, so I can't wait to bring these home!

spring has (nearly) sprung

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Spring has nearly sprung, and I can hardly wait to welcome my favorite season! The snow is beginning to melt around here, and I have officially shed my down coat. Let's just hope it is for good this time.

I spent last spring abroad, and was so blessed to enjoy some of my favorite spring things across Europe. However, it was not quite the same as a springtime at home. Here is what I am looking forward to most about Minnesota spring:

Ballet Flats | My growing collection has stayed dormant awaiting the moment I can shed my black boots for colorful and printed flats.

Umbrellas | A little rain never hurt anyone, especially when covered by a chic umbrella. When I need to break through the grey clouds, I take out my ruffles and  leopard (and a touch of Hello Kitty) print umbrella.

Budding Trees | My house is surrounded by woods, and my favorite view of the whole year is the electric green glow that the trees take on when they first wake up from winter.

Flowers | When the snow finally goes away, flowers seem to magically spring up around campus, bringing the scenery back to life.

What are you most looking forward to this spring?

the yeti

Sunday, March 9, 2014

My hipster baby sis, Noelle, always seems to take the coolest pics. The other day she took this shot of my love that captures the joy of being outdoors in the MN tundra. I am always amazed by Noelle's ability to capture the essence and emotion of the moment in her pictures, and had to share this one. We call it "The Yeti". Enjoy.

spring break 2014 | dc bound

Thursday, March 6, 2014

I have been considering spring break plans since the holidays, but never committed to any one idea. I love travelling, but with the exception of a few places (e.g. Disneyworld, Barcelona, and Paris), I would rather broaden my horizons than see somewhere twice. Though my list of cities included New Orleans, Charleston, and Seattle, my top choice was Washington D.C. Can you believe I have lived in the states for 22 years and have yet to visit the capital?! Neither can I. Plus, I am considering applying to a law school in the area, so would like to check it out before I do so.

My dad called me yesterday saying he got tickets to D.C. I am so excited! After my semester aborad, I have become quite the trip planner. I am leaving in less than two weeks for my long weekend in D.C., so have a lot of work to do. I look forward to sharing my planning process, and to post about the trip when I return.

tres chic

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

I am excited to share this photoshoot I talked my dad into doing over Thanksgiving. I am a little surprised I haven't posted this shoot yet, considering this sweater is always at the top of my mind. Ever since I got it for my birthday way back in November, I have pretty much worn it about once a week. It is so easy to layer, and the black and white contrasts well with so many of my pants. Because of the bold lettering, I don't have to do much to accessorize, either. Simple, and tres chic!
