font frenzy

Thursday, February 20, 2014

I don't know what has gotten into me lately, but I have really been into looking at creative typefaces. Over the weekend I downloaded a bunch of AWESOME handwritten fonts. Feeling inspired, I created some graphics of quotes and sayings that have been on my mind. Enjoy!

I have found that most of these work for desktop backgrounds if you stretch them just right. If you would like to download for use on your own desktop, let me know your screen dimensions I am happy to resize them for you!

watercolor fashion

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

One of my favorite mediums of art is watercolor. I love the way that the translucency of the layers creates depth and emotion on a basic white sheet of paper. Though I first encountered watercolors through some my dad had painted, I truly fell in love when I saw the medium used in fashion illustrations. Today I am excited to share about two of my favorite watercolor fashion illustrators.

Kerrie Hess | This lovely Aussie illustrator has been commissioned by the likes of Kate Spade, Chanel, and Vogue, among other popular fashion brands. I do not remember whether I came across her work through instagram or the blog world, but she has quickly become one of my favorites to follow. I like how she introduces color only in the outfits of the illustrations, while the model remains a black and white ink sketch. It really allows the fashion to speak.

Katie Rodgers of Paper Fashion | Ms. Rodgers has an equally impressive client list, and beautiful prints. I want to cover all of my walls in her work! Her pieces stand out for the signature rosy cheeks on the models, as well as the texture she adds to her pieces. Check out her facebook page where she posts time lapse videos of her painting. Incredible.

heart to heart | small things, great love

Friday, February 14, 2014

As promised, here is the (short) second installment of my new Friday series, Heart to Heart! How appropriate is the name for today?

I have been loving this day of love! From surprise treats at a meeting, to a salon day and pizza with my roommate, it really is the small things that make lasting memories. Have a fabulous Valentine's Day <3 !

my furry valentine

Thursday, February 13, 2014

This is not a story of love at first sight, but a true love nonetheless. Like all fine things (read: pearls, red wine, and Hermes birkin bags), this love took time. It all started in 2001 when my family decided to buy our first puppy. After a couple of trips to the breeder's house, the runt of the litter won my parents heart. The Cors family was now the proud owner of a little shih-tzu named Maxine May.

I, on the other hand, had never been much of an animal lover. Little, furry things didn't interest me. So, naturally, the same went for our teeny tiny pup. I remember our family sitting in a circle, playing with Maxine. My sisters were begging her to come, but stubborn shih-tzu that she is, Maxine always turned away and came to me.

I am not sure if it was her easy going yet prissy demeanor that I identified with, or the fact that she, too, had a passion for fashion, but eventually things just clicked. I, Nicole Cors, became dog lover, all thanks to my Maxine.

These days, pretty much everyone knows that my dog is my baby. The bond that humans can share with a pet never ceases to amaze me. I cherish the cuddly love that she unconditionally gives, and the fits of laughter she can bring about. I love that she responds to her myriad nicknames, princess, tiny girl, little, with a tilt of her head and a bouncing saunter, tail waving side to side. As she is aging (gracefully, I must add), I cannot help but think of how no dog will ever compare. Maxine will always be my furry valentine.

Do you have a furry valentine of your own?

pinspiration | sweet nothings

It seems every holiday comes with a flurry of festive recipes, and Valentine's day is no exception. Most years I am more into buying chocolates and treats than baking them myself. However, recently I have come across some chocolatey goodness that just might make it into my kitchen.

Check out my pinterest page for more baking ideas!

valentine's collab | think pink

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

I have probably said this a million times over, but I just love pink so so much! When Catherine of My Inner Fabulous contacted me to do a V-day collab, I knew it would involve lots and lots of pink. This ruffle collar top was a 21st birthday gift to myself, and is easily one of my favorite pieces I own. Paired with my pleather skirt, the look is the perfect blend of girly and edgy. How appropriate for this single lady on Valentine's Day!

Spread the love- check out My Inner Fabulous for the details of Catherine's look.

What are you planning to don this V-day?
