Mod Mani

Sunday, November 24, 2013

In continuation with my mod obsession, I am currently loving this Banana Repbulic windowpane peplum sweater. I have had on my wishlist for far too long, and cannot wait for it to go on sale. The check print and bold pink color take me straight to the sixties.
Photo cred:

To hold the place in the mean time, I will just have to enjoy the print on my nails. The base is OPI "If you moust you moust" (Similar), and I used a cheap white for the accent.

Because I am a total leftie, my left hand is never quite as exciting. This week I coordinated by putting a coat of Maybelline Color Show "Speckled Pink" on top of a white base coat. The white and black round confetti scream pop art, so this is the perfect mod pairing.

Overall, I am loving this mod mani!

Modern Mod Wishlist

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Let the wishlist season begin! This week I have been loving the mod look. Inspired by the legendary twiggy and Swinging London, I am putting these two coats by J.Crew onto my holiday wishlist.

Pink  | I love how the soft color contrasts the simple and chunky collar, pockets, and placket of this structured wool coat.
White | Mod goes modern with this white J.Crew coat. With little detailing and a simple color, I can let my imagination run wild with how I would style this number.

What style coat are you loving?

Sunny Sweater Day

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

As much as I am inclined to post something about the cold weather given my sweater look, I really can't complain. Minneapolis is having a good weather day and I am SO happy that the sun is out and shining!

I am still keeping cozy in my front zip sweater from Gap. I got this for Christmas a couple years ago, but have been really into army green lately, so am still in love.

My lovely roommate, Ali, snapped this pic of me on my way out to class. Please excuse the graininess- I will be getting a new phone next week so let's just say this is the last hurrah of my dodgy 3yo iPhone 4.

Very excited to be joining a link party at:

Weekend Recap: Past, Present, and Future

Monday, November 18, 2013

I had the best time this weekend, though it means this week will bring LOTS of homework. It was well spent enjoying the present but also looking towards my future.

On Friday I had a sleepover with my sophomore Bible study ladies. It was so much fun to get all caught up on eachother's life's, and hopes, and dreams. Not to mention a spontaneous dance party and loads of sweets.

Saturday I headed downtown for a Cru conference with my senior friends. I loved getting to spend 24 hrs processing my future with some of my best girls and God.

And today it comes full circle... let's not forget my prep school past. I must've been feeling nostalgic today when I threw on a pleated skirt, button down, and polo cardi. Some things just stick with you.

What were your weekend highlights?

Great Gatsby Glamour

Friday, November 15, 2013

I am in the thick of my semester, so definitely in need of a little glam. One of the first manicures I ever did was a gradient glitter, and I have been hooked ever since. For this mani I used a multi-colored glitter to add a little sass.

I started by painting a base coat of translucent glitter nail polish, Maybelline Colorshow "Sugar Crystals".

Next, I painted multiple coats of Nicole by OPI "Pick of the Glitter" (similar). I start by painting a coat on the tip of my nail, like with a french manicure. Once dried, I repeated, with each coat going further down my nail.

Every time I look at my nails I am instantly transported to the glamorous world of Gatsby.

Short Hair Don't Care

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

I did it! On a whim this Friday I walked into the salon below my apt and got my hair cut. Check out the new look below:

CURLY. I haven't gotten my hair cut at an actual salon in soooo long, it was so much fun to get my hair styled (and a hand massage :) ).

STRAIGHT. My hair was behaving, but eye makeup was not; thus the glasses...

Though I had many ideas to go off of, I think we will call this one "the Coco". And she just might be a keeper!

Weekend About Town

Monday, November 11, 2013

Though Monday's can be rough, I can't help but smile and feel blessed for such a wonderful weekend that I had! I think I made it to every spot in the TC this weekend: UMN campus, Uptown, and St. Paul? Check, check, and check! And I got to connect with some pretty cool people along the way.

Here are the highlights:

-Midwest Style Bloggers Meetup at French Meadow Bakery. What better way to connect with other bloggers in the area than over some french toast in uptown? The girls were so sweet and they have some great blogs, too!

-Starbucks with one of my best friends on Friday. We spent some quality hours talking faith, boys, and futures. And did I mention my latte in a holiday cup?! Christmas is coming...

-Dinner with the fam at Dixie's on Grand Ave, St. Paul. There is nothing in the cities I love more than a visit to Grand Avenue. I enjoyed some jambalaya, Kentucky pot roast, and fresh warm biscuits.

Pinspiration: Finding Joy

Friday, November 8, 2013

Pinterest was ON IT today with inspiring quotes. I definitely needed the encouragement, as some things over the past couple of months, and especially this week, that have put me in a funk. Here is one of my favorite finds:

I have joy in me, as a fruit of the Holy Spirit who dwells within me (Gal 5:22-23; 1 Cor. 3:16). This joy goes much deeper than the fleeting happiness I feel in winning moments; it is a positivity and a hope that I carry despite life's circumstances. I find my joy in the Lord; in His unconditional love, in the hope I have for eternal life with Him, and in the fact that He is using challenges to form me into the woman I will become. I will not let negative experiences or losses get me down. I will embrace the joy that I hold. Like this quote, today (and every day) I choose joy.

Where do you find your joy from? What helps you to get through tough times?

Crap Hair Don't Care

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

I am notorious for having terrible hair. The story begins with my untame, frizzy locks that I slicked back into a ponytail for the first 18 years of my life. I finally got smart a couple of years ago and got my hair permmed straight.

As much as I love the sleeker look, my ends are absolutely fried from using a flat iron every day. Despite the fact that I have been using conditioner and a low heat setting, as per the advice of my hairdresser, I think it is time to brave the scissors and chop it off. (...Ok, so I didn't come to this revelation myself. My sister may or may not have told me that my hair was so fried it looked like a bad wig yesterday. And it may or may not have been the only thing on my mind today...).

To give myself some hope, I have searched all over the internet (mostly pinterest) for some cute shorter 'dos that I just might try!
I have been in love with this cut for the longest time, just too scared to try it.
If I'm feeling brave...
If I'm not feeling so brave. Plus this is a close match to my own hair color
This seems obtainable. Simple and classy.

What's the craziest thing you've done to your hair?

Welcome, November!

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

I cannot think of a better way to bring in November than this adorable calendar download by Oana Befort. I can't wait to make it into my desktop background. I found out about her about a month ago and fell in love.

Her art is so adorable! Her fall prints make me want to cuddle with my dog and a cup of apple cider by the fireplace.

Things I am excited for this month:

-11/9, Midwest Style Bloggers Brunch. My first time connecting with bloggers in my area! :)
-11/16, Life Ops Conference. A wonderful way to get my priorities straight for after graduation.
-11/25, My Birthday: (The only thing I am not looking forward to- having Taylor Swift's 22 stuck in my head ALL day)
-11/28, Thanksgiving: I always love spending the lazy day with fun, family, and food.

What are you looking forward to this month?

Sugar Skulls and Roses Mani

Sunday, November 3, 2013

In (belated) celebration of Day of the Dead, this week I did a sugar skull and rose manicure.

I feel like I am seeing skulls everywhere, and am amazed by how chic they can be. To re-create the sugar skulls yourself, check out this youtube video by HannahRoxNails. I used a dotting tool  and brush to do mine, but a tooth pick will work fine if you don't want to make the investment.

Another popular trend is flower crowns. With Halloween party pics, they have been taking over my Facebook newsfeed. The ring finger is inspired by these. To make, I put red dots along my nail tip, dotted in some white and more red paint, then roughly outlined the circles in black.

I am quite pleased with this combo. For more Day of the Dead Manicure inspiration, check out my Pinterest page.

What a great way to start the week off!

What are you looking forward to this week?
